Violinist Arutyun Piloyan, a native of Armenia, has performed and collaborated with internationally acclaimed musicians including Cho-Liang Lin, Timothy Pitts, Robert Spano, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Lidiya Yankovskaya, Sergiu Schwartz, Paul Hostetter, Neal Stulberg, Antonio Lysy, Dina Vainstein, Eduard Grach, and Valeri Gergiev. His performances have taken him to some of the most prestigious venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Grand Hall of Moscow Conservatory, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Bolshoi Theatre, Royal Opera House Muscat.
Mr. Piloyan is a winner of numerous international competitions, including winning the International Competition “Renaissance” named after Komitas, “Fuat Mansurov Competition and Festival”, and a Gold Medal at the “Citta di Pesaro” International Violin Competition. He was also a recipient of the AGBU “Performing Arts” Scholarship (2019–2022) and Vahan Adjemian Scholarship (2022).
While studying at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Mr. Piloyan began his professional career as a concertmaster with the Igor Moiseev Ballet Orchestra in Moscow, a position he held from 2016 to 2019.
At the start of his career in the United States in 2019, Arutyun won Concerto Competition at the Schwob School of Music and performed rarely heard Shostakovich Violin Concerto no.2 with the Schwob Philharmonic Orchestra.
In June 2022, Arutyun performed Sibelius’s Violin Concerto with the UCLA Philharmonic Orchestra in Schoenberg Hall, featuring the 1732 “Duke of Alcantara” Stradivarius violin.
Mr. Piloyan made his debut at Carnegie Hall in October 2022, an event organized and supported by the AGBU Foundation. That same year, he won the “All-Star Concerto Competition” in Los Angeles and was awarded the 1732 “Duke of Alcantara” Stradivarius violin provided by UCLA for use in solo, chamber, and outreach performances across California.
In March 2023, Mr. Piloyan performed at Houston Taiwan Institute for Senior Citizens 20th Anniversary Benefit Concert playing with world-renowned violinist Cho-Liang Lin and famous American double bassist Timothy Pitts.
In March 2024, NAXOS released a CD album “Serenade with a Dandelion” where Arutyun is featured collaborating with renowned American musicians Antonio Lysy and Phil O’Conor. It is already recognized as the biggest Armenian chamber music album in the world, and the performers in the album include famous Armenian-American musicians Ani Kavafian, Ida Kavafian, Movses Pogossian, and Varty Manouelian.
Since February 2024, Arutyun serves as a substitute violinist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he runs a private violin studio in Houston, where his students have achieved top prizes at international competitions and take leading positions in Houston area orchestras.
Arutyun Piloyan holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and a Master’s degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. His major teachers include Cho-Liang Lin, Sergiu Schwartz, Movses Pogossian, Varty Manouelian, Graf Mourja, Eduard Grach, and Alviya Vandysheva.
