A native of Chengdu, Chinese pianist Tina Yijia Bu enjoys a musical life as a soloist, chamber musician, and artist teacher. Her concert career has taken her to four continents. Her repertoire extends the music from the past to our time.

Bu is a specialist in Contemporary music. She has world premiered solo piano and ensemble pieces including works by Kathryn Mueller, Daniel Musselman, Brian Nelson, Patrick Chan and local composer Mao Zhu. She also presented concerts and lectures featuring the music of Olivier Messiaen, John Cage, William Ballcom, George Crumb, Jacob Ter Veldhuis, Recent performance note includes Chen XiaoYong, Zou Xiangping, Nikolai Kapustin.

Bu has appeared at many New Music Festivals, including Sound Scape New Music Festival in Pavia of Italy, Piano Festival in Corfu of Greece and Summer Institute for Contemporary Practice (SCIPP) and Bowling Green New Music Festival in United States.

Between West and East, Bu wants to bring her understanding and practical experience back to benefit today’s youth in China. In 2011, She arranged John Cage’s 100th anniversary Salon Concert in Chengdu, and gave series Lecture Recital Morning Sun Landscape to introduce 20th & 21 century music to audience in Chengdu. In 2014, She participated in the first “China-Puerto Rico” International Music Festival, held lecture “Piano Culture in China”, and accepted an interview with local radio WRTU89.7

Bu received degrees from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music (BM), the Bowling Green State University (MM) in United States. Her primary teachers includes Dr. Thomas Rosenkranz, Dr.Laura Melton, Dan Zhaoyi, She also enjoyed many opportunities to learn about music from famous musicians such as Leon Fleisher, Nelita True, Jerome Lowenthal, Stephen Drury, Winston Choi, composers like Jonathan Harvey, Chen Yi, and Frederic Rzewski. Currently, She is associate professor at Sichuan Conservatory of Music where she teaches piano.
