Xiaobo Su works as an Assistant Professor in Major of Vocal Art at Beijing Normal University. She is also a guest voice teacher in both China Central Conservatory and Tsinghua University. Ms. Su has had a passion for music since a young age. She started to sing at age six in a children’s classical chorus, in repertoire of Handel and Bach. In 2007, she moved to the United States and studied music in Thornton School of Music at USC where she started her musical dream and get her training. She was cast as the leading role in many operas including Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Mariana in Das Liebeverbot, La Cesca in Gianni Schicchi, Michaela in Carmen, Liu inTurandot, etc. After three years of graduate study in voice she was Western Regional Finalist of Metropolitan Opera Council 2011, and named NATSLA Young Artist of 2011. She has won numerous scholarships and performed with local opera companies such as Palm Spring Opera, Opera Buffs. She was also winners of Mu Phi Epsilon International Music Competition, Santa Barbara Performing Arts Scholarships, Career Bridge Fund etc. In 2017 she won second place in the Pavarotti International Voice Competion and was invited to have masterclass with Mirella Freni hosted by Teatro di Modena Comunale. In 2018, she joined the Young artist program in Teatro Comnunale di Bologna. In 2019, as a frequent concerts singer, she appeared in St. John Passion conducted by Leon Botstein in Fisher Center. Highlights of her performance includes “First Songs” concert of World premiere music with Dawn Upshaw in Morgan Library performance, the soprano soloist in Beethoven Ninth at Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, Rotary International Opera Competition Final Gala concert with the National Portuguese Orchestra, Lisbon and Winter Music Concert, National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing China. Since 2019, Ms. Su returned to her hometown and started her teaching career in Beijing Normal University. In 2020 and 2022 she received Outstanding Mentor Prize Award. In 2023 her course ”Voice and Scientific Phonation” was voted as the most popular course in BNU. She has published 10 articles in academic journals.
