Dong Yeol Hong

Celllo Session 1 and 2

A cellist, Dong Yeol Hong has appeared as a soloist with the Korea National Orchestra and Moscow Pre-college Chamber Orchestra. Also, as a dedicated chamber musician, Mr. Hong performed with numerous faculties from the Cleveland Institute of Music with Elizabeth DeMio, Cincinnati College- Conservatory of Music with Alan Rafferty and many others. Moreover, he was invited as a guest artist and performed at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Indiana State University, Delta State University, and Mississippi State University for Women. Hong participated in international music festivals such as the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Russia Chamber Music Festival, American Choral Directors Association Festival, New Music on the Bayou and Classical Music Festival in Austria.

Hong has claimed top prizes of the Korea National Symphony Orchestra International Competition, Korea Youth Competition, Second Prize of the Moscow Pre Conservatory Ensemble Competition, Moscow Conservatory International Competition, Moscow Contemporary Music Competition and CBS Korea Broadcast International Competition.

With teaching experiences at various levels of education, including elementary, high school, and collegiate, Mr. Hong have acquired a diverse set of skills. Specifically, at Moscow Conservatory Pre- College, Hong provided guidance and instruction to elementary and high school students as a cello teacher. Additionally, as a cello teaching assistant at Moscow Conservatory Pre-College, he instructed cello students collaborated with his cello instructor Stanislav Nicholivich from 2007-2010.

Mr. Hong started his bachelor program at the Moscow Conservatory, and then he moved to US. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Cleveland Institute of Music, and master’s at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. His major cello teachers are Stanislav Nicholivich, Maria Tchaikovskaya, Alan Harris, Stephen Geber, and Peter Stumpf. Mr. Hong earned doctoral candidacy and currently in his final semester pursuing a doctoral degree at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with full merit scholarship and stipend under the guidance of Alan Rafferty. As a sophisticated educator, he currently instructs cello at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music as a graduate teaching assistant and also teaches at Indiana State University as a chamber ensemble instructor.
