Violinist Er-Gene Kahng enjoys a multifaceted career as a performer, recording artist, and educator. She joins the faculty of Chapman University’s Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music in Fall 2025 as Professor of Violin, following a distinguished tenure at the University of Arkansas, where she served as Full Professor, Associate Chair, and Director of Graduate Studies. Kahng has appeared as concertmaster, chamber musician, and soloist with ensembles across the United States and abroad, and is widely recognized for her advocacy of historically significant composers.
Her critically acclaimed world-premiere recording of the Florence Price Violin Concertos (Albany Records) was featured by The New York Times, The New Yorker, and NPR’s All Things Considered, and helped catalyze a broad resurgence of interest in Price’s music. Passionate about mentorship and artistic collaboration, she has taught and performed at festivals such as Interlochen, Artosphere, and Mizzou’s New Music Initiative. In addition to an international performing profile, she is a committed educator whose students have earned awards, fellowships, and graduate placements across the country.
An alumna of UCLA, Yale and Northwestern, she brings a deep commitment to artistic excellence, inclusive programming, and the next generation of string players.
