Violinist/violist Hanbyul Jang leads an active career in the Los Angeles area as an orchestral player, chamber musician, and a studio musician. She is a member of the Pacific Symphony, initially joining the violin section but later moving to the viola section. As an active freelancer, she performs with the LA Philharmonic, LA Opera, San Diego Symphony, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. An avid chamber musician, Hanbyul has performed on the Colburn Chamber Music Society and Da Camera Society series in Los Angeles, and the Franco-American Chamber Music Festival in Missillac, France. Hanbyul maintains an active teaching studio and enjoys working with students of all ages.
A native of South Korea, Hanbyul began playing the violin at the age of five. Her precollege studies were with Dennis Kim. Hanbyul moved to Los Angeles to pursue her studies under the guidance of Robert Lipsett at the Colburn School and went on to study with Glenn Dicterow at USC Thornton School of Music, where she received a Master of Music degree.
