Based in the SF Bay Area, James Choi is a highly acclaimed violinist and violist who enjoys a versatile career as a performer and pedagogue. He has performed as soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician in venues all across North America, Europe and Asia. He has collaborated with some of the world’s leading artists like Joshua Bell, Kyung-wha Chung and
Anne Sophie Mutter. He is currently on the faculty at Holy Names University, teaching both pre-college and college students. His pre-college students frequently go on to pursue music at major conservatories in the US. Previously, he has held positions as the director of Stanford University’s Summer Suzuki Institute and chamber music coach at Indiana University’s Summer String Academy. His festival appearances include Moritzburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Aspen. He has studied at IU and KNUA. His principal teachers include Nam Yun Kim, Federico Agostini and Henryk Kowalski.
